Job Description
This position is for a Cook role within the Dietary department of a healthcare or nursing home facility typically managed by an administrative coordinator. This establishment prioritizes nutrition and quality food service in accordance with stringent federal, state, and local regulations that govern food safety and dietary standards in such environments. As a cook, you will be fundamental to the daily operation of the food services by preparing a variety of meals that meet these standards and support the health and wellbeing of residents. The establishment is committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment, where meals are not only nutritious but also compliant with therapeutic diet requirements and special dietary restrictions often necessary in healthcare settings.
The role requires the ability to manage cooking tasks in large quantities and adapt independently to changing conditions or emergency situations. You will be expected to collaborate effectively with colleagues, residents, family members, healthcare personnel, and external agencies, bringing tact and professionalism to all interactions. The position emphasizes adherence to dietary procedures, including meal preparation, inventory management, menu planning, and ensuring all aspects of food service operations comply with infection control and universal precaution policies.
Your working environment will be a well-lit, ventilated kitchen space maintained for safety and cleanliness, with responsibilities extending to sanitation checks and equipment maintenance. This role plays a critical part in emergency preparedness, including assisting with resident evacuation if necessary. You will be required to manage physical activities such as standing, lifting, bending, and moving supplies regularly.
The work schedule typically involves shifts from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility needed during emergency or special conditions. Continuing education and training participation is expected to remain compliant with evolving health standards and to enhance job performance. This career opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a structured, yet dynamic environment, where food preparation extends beyond cooking and contributes to the overall care and quality of life of residents in a healthcare setting.
