Currently, Great Western Dining Service is seeking a skilled Cook/Chef for its Southeast Community College - Lincoln location. This role is integral to maintaining the quality and consistency of meals prepared and served. The ideal Cook/Chef will have strong cooking skills, the ability to follow instructions meticulously, and the capability to efficiently multitask and move within a fast-paced kitchen environment. Experience with a variety of cooking techniques and ingredients is essential to meet the standards expected by the company and its clientele.

The Cook/Chef’s responsibilities include setting up workstations with all necessary ingredients and equipment, collaborating with kitchen staff on developing new menu items and enhancing existing recipes, and preparing ingredients such as chopping vegetables and cutting meat. This role requires the preparation, portioning, and cooking of food for various meal periods or special events, ensuring the presentation of dishes is appealing before being served. Maintaining kitchen cleanliness and orderliness, adhering to proper food storage protocols, and following company HACCP and safety policies are also critical aspects of the role.

Job Requirements

  • Continuous standing/walking and other means of mobility up to 8 hours a day
  • ability to reach, bend, stoop, push/pull and frequently lift/move up to 30 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as cook
  • knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods such as grilling, baking, boiling
  • familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment
  • ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • ability to work in a team environment
  • very good communication skills

Job Duties

  • Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • collaborate with kitchen staff to create new menu items and improve existing recipes
  • prepare ingredients to use in cooking such as chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat
  • prepare, portion, cook food items for various meal periods or special events
  • ability to follow basic recipes and production information
  • ensure great presentation by dressing dishes before they are served
  • keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • ensure all food and other items are stored properly
  • follow all company HACCP and safety policies
