Job Description

Swift Middle School is a reputable educational institution committed to fostering a nurturing learning environment for its students. Located in a community-focused setting, the school is dedicated to providing quality education coupled with essential support services that enhance students' daily experiences. Among these vital services is the Food Services department, which plays an integral role in ensuring that students receive nutritious, well-prepared meals in a safe and welcoming environment. Swift Middle School takes pride in maintaining high standards in its cafeteria operations, emphasizing food safety, nutritional value, and excellent customer service as part of its overall mission to support student well-being and academic success.

The Food Services department is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook/Baker to join its team. This position is full-time with a work schedule of 30 hours per week, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Cook/Baker will report directly to the Director of Food Services or Cafeteria Manager and will be responsible for a variety of food preparation and service tasks within the school cafeteria. In this role, you will operate essential cooking equipment and perform meal preparations as outlined on daily menus, which cater to the nutritional requirements of middle school students. You will also help in managing the serving line, including resetting and restocking food items as needed. Additionally, operating a Point of Sale (POS) system is required to efficiently handle transactions and balance daily sales, along with preparing necessary production paperwork. The Cook/Baker will work collaboratively within a team-oriented atmosphere, always demonstrating a spirit of cooperation to ensure smooth and effective cafeteria operations.

Physical demands of the job include the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and execute a full range of body motions such as reaching, stooping, bending, and walking. Standing for extended periods is also a fundamental expectation of this position. Candidates should have knowledge of food safety basics and the proper cleaning and sanitation practices required in food preparation areas to deliver meals safely.

Additional responsibilities include assisting with general cleanup, dishwashing, laundry tasks, and serving students on the line when necessary. The Cook/Baker must follow proper job safety guidelines and participate in departmental meetings as required. Employment terms are governed by the Cafeteria Union Contract, ensuring fair and equitable work conditions.

The role offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about food service in an educational environment, supporting student health through nutritious meals and a clean, safe dining area. The anticipated start date for this position is August 25, 2026, and interested candidates should apply promptly before the closing date of August 7, 2026. Swift Middle School values dedicated team members eager to contribute to the wellness and satisfaction of its student body through excellent food service practices.
