This recruitment is to fill a full-time Cook/Baker position within DAJD’s Food Services Section. The Cook/Baker is integral to the daily operation of the department’s culinary services, preparing three meals daily for approximately 1,400 jail residents and staff. This position operates within a 24/7 institutional corrections environment, demonstrating the unique challenges and responsibilities that come with working in a secure correctional facility such as the King County Correctional Facility in downtown Seattle or the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA. The role requires the preparation, cooking, baking, and portioning of meals that meet strict nutritional standards and comply with health codes.

As a Cook/Baker, you will supervise and train jail resident workers, ensuring that all food service activities uphold health, safety, and security standards. You will be responsible for estimating meal orders, maintaining inventory, preparing special diets, and adhering to food service quality controls. The position demands physical stamina for prolonged standing and the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds. Additionally, you will perform operator-level maintenance on commercial kitchen equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The work schedule consists of 40 hours per week, with potential for overtime, including shifts during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
