The role of Cook/Baker at Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is a critical position responsible for preparing high-quality foods necessary to sustain the health and well-being of patients, staff, visitors, and special events. This full-time position typically involves working from 12 pm to 8:30 pm with rotations on weekends and holidays. The Cook/Baker upholds rigorous food safety and sanitation practices that comply with federal, state, and healthcare facility accreditation regulatory agency requirements. The job is highly detail-oriented, requiring adherence to established procedures such as labeling and dating food products, meeting strict schedules for food preparation, ensuring the quality, taste, and appearance of all food items, and correctly using a variety of kitchen equipment including combo-ovens, slicers, steamers, and mixers. The role also emphasizes following production sheets to ensure accurate quantities are prepared and distributed efficiently across all service areas.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • experience with institutional cooking
  • knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • ability to work shifts including weekends and holidays
  • ServSafe food handler certification required in Illinois
  • willingness to adhere to strict sanitation guidelines
  • physical ability to stand for extended periods
  • strong attention to detail
  • good communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 2 years institutional cooking preferred
  • 1 year food service and/or cooking preferred
  • food handler certification - ServSafe required in Illinois
  • food handler certification - ServSafe preferred in Indiana

Job Duties
