The opportunity available is for a full-time Cook position within the Women's Operations team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of the kitchen by organizing, managing, and coordinating all food service activities during the designated shift. The Cook will be responsible for overseeing the service quality and monitoring health compliance regulations to guarantee food safety and customer satisfaction. The work schedule is from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a biweekly rotation that includes weekends, highlighting the importance of flexibility and commitment. The Cook will interact with diverse groups including staff, volunteers, and program participants, particularly focusing on meeting the special dietary needs of children and expectant mothers.

This position demands excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to managing food supplies, storage, and sanitation. The Cook must maintain a safe and sanitary food environment compliant with health department standards, provide instruction and leadership on food preparation methods, and keep open communication with the Food Service Manager about kitchen status and potential issues. Success in this role contributes directly to the mission's overall goal of delivering nutritious meals while fostering a positive and collaborative atmosphere. This role is also key in preserving the integrity of the mission’s core values through consistent adherence to policies and by setting a positive example for all kitchen operations participants. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • one year of food service experience preferred
  • excellent organizational and administrative skills are essential

Job Duties

  • Follows the written meal schedule as set by the Food Service Manager
  • communicates with Food Service Manager regarding surplus foods and issues related to meal planning
  • receives, stores, and manages supplies that are ordered and donated
  • ensures food storage areas are sanitary and well organized in compliance with health department guidelines
  • instructs staff, program participants, and volunteers in health department standards and food preparation methods
  • oversees preparation and daily use of perishable foods
  • considers special dietary needs of children and expectant mothers in food preparation
  • organizes daily food needs and retrieves items from storage as required
  • keeps Food Service Manager informed of kitchen problems and needs
  • oversees sanitation of dining room before and after meals
  • maintains knowledge of current health department regulations
  • maintains good work relationships with program participants, staff, and volunteers
  • regular attendance and punctuality are essential
