These facilities provide a wide array of services, demonstrating commitment to quality standards, innovative medical advancements, and superior patient experiences. The institution fosters a culture built on collaboration, leadership, respect, and values such as compassion, responsibility, integrity, quality, and trust. The commitment to these core values is integral to fulfilling its mission to improve the health outcomes of the communities it serves.
The Food Service Cook position at University of Utah Health plays a vital role in supporting the hospital’s nutrition services by preparing a variety of food items in accordance with established recipes and strict procedures tailored for healthcare settings. This role focuses exclusively on food preparation and is not responsible for direct patient care. The position requires close attention to detail to ensure food safety, proper portioning, and adherence to dietary standards, including those specific to medical and special diet requirements. It may also involve leadership responsibilities such as overseeing other cooks and performing advanced cooking duties.
Working at University of Utah Health means joining a workplace that values employee growth, learning, and work-life balance alongside offering competitive pay and comprehensive benefits. The position is full-time with a day shift schedule from Sunday through Thursday, emphasizing reliability and teamwork in a fast-paced hospital environment. Staff engaged in this role benefit from early access to healthcare benefits starting from day one, a 401(k) retirement savings plan, and the support of a respected institution known for its commitment to innovation in patient care.
As a Food Service Cook, you will be instrumental in preparing food products through various cooking methods such as baking, roasting, frying, steaming, and stewing while adhering to hospital quality and safety standards. The role requires proficiency in using kitchen machinery and equipment like slicers, choppers, fryers, and steam kettles, ensuring that food is prepared efficiently and safely. Additionally, this position helps with inventory management, including ordering and stocking ingredients to maintain the production schedule, and assists with catering functions when required.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to recipe development or modification to improve kitchen output and service quality. This role demands excellent organizational skills, computer literacy for order and inventory management, and strong communication abilities. The work environment involves moderate physical demands and occasional exposure to hot and cold temperatures and cleaning chemicals, consistent with the needs of a hospital kitchen. Applicants with experience in institutional cooking, preferably within a healthcare context, and proper food safety certification will find this position an excellent opportunity to grow their culinary career within a supportive, mission-driven healthcare organization.
