Job Description

The role of Cook at NorthBay Health sits within the Nutrition Services department and is crucial for maintaining high standards of food preparation and safety in various healthcare settings. Under the management and supervision of Nutrition Services Supervisors and the Manager, the Cook ensures strict adherence to state and federal mandated standards of safety and cleanliness. This position is responsible for tasks including hot food preparation and production, meal distribution within and between healthcare facilities, and sanitation of kitchen equipment and facilities. Additionally, the Cook plays an important role in tray-line meal assembly, product inventory management, and ordering as assigned. This position is integral to maintaining the seamless operation of the Nutrition Services department and supports patient care by delivering nutritious, safe, and well-prepared meals.

The Cook at NorthBay Health is expected to demonstrate a current knowledge of hospital policies and procedures, maintain excellent communication and interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and management, and ensure exemplary attendance and punctuality. Compliance with hospital and departmental safety policies is paramount to prevent workplace injuries and exposures. The role requires active participation in departmental activities, projects, and programs, contributing to overall department goals and continuous quality improvement.

This hourly role offers a competitive salary range starting at $28.38 up to $34.46, with the offered hourly rate based on the candidate’s years of experience. Furthermore, employees benefit from a 10% per diem differential and generous shift differentials, providing additional financial incentives. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum two years of experience in hot food preparation and production in healthcare or institutional food service
  • Completion of Cook competency check list if currently employed in NB Nutrition department
  • Must hold current Safe Food Handler’s certificate
  • Strong knowledge of sanitation, safety and infection control procedures
  • Ability to maintain punctuality and attendance
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate preferred
  • Two years of experience with hot food preparation and production in a healthcare or institutional food service or currently works in NB Nutrition department and has completed the Cook competency check list
  • Current Safe Food Handler’s certificate required
  • Knowledge of sanitation, safety and infection control procedures
  • Ability to work with a variety of individual personalities and adapt to changing conditions

Job Duties

  • Demonstrates current knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures
  • Maintains excellent communication and interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, employees and management
  • Maintains a good record of attendance and punctuality by reporting to work as scheduled, utilizing the Kronos time card system as instructed, and not exceeding departmental limits contained in the policies and procedures
  • Follows all hospital and departmental safety policies to prevent injuries and exposures
  • Meets or exceeds organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health
  • Hot food preparation and production
  • Meal distribution within and between healthcare facilities
  • Sanitation of kitchen facilities and equipment
