Job Description

Currently, Morrison Healthcare is seeking a temporary Cook to join their team at UConn Health Waterbury Hospital located at 64 Robins Street, Waterbury, CT. This is a 6-month temporary position with flexible hours ranging from 4:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., details of which will be provided during the interview process. The position offers a competitive fixed pay rate of $26.26 per hour.

In this role, the Cook will be responsible for preparing high-quality food items following standardized recipes and guidelines, ensuring that food is attractive, tasty, and served at the correct temperature. The Cook will play a crucial role in maintaining proper portion control and upholding health and safety standards such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points). They will also handle kitchen equipment operation, maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and storerooms, assist in inventory management including ordering and receiving supplies, and participate in safety meetings and ongoing training.

The Cook position demands detailed attention to quality, safety, and operational standards within a high-volume, fast-paced healthcare foodservice environment. It requires a personal commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for oneself and colleagues as well as abiding by company policies including the proper use of protective gear like cut-resistant gloves, oven mitts, and slip-resistant shoes. The candidate should be proactive in reporting equipment issues or safety hazards and contribute positively to the team dynamic with good communication and cooperation.

Job Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of previous high volume cooking experience
  • Valid culinary certificate preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours between 4:30 am and 6:00 pm
  • Ability to comply with company safety policies including use of protective gloves and equipment
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Willingness to work temporary 6-month assignment
  • Capable of maintaining a safe and clean working environment
  • Willingness to attend safety and in-service meetings

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions
  • Serves meals or prepares for delivery ensuring correct portioning and food temperature
  • Utilizes established ticket collection procedures during service
  • Cleans kitchen and stores or discards excess food following safe food-handling procedures
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of refrigerators and storerooms
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
  • Assists in production planning, record keeping, and ordering of food and supplies
  • Reports maintenance issues and attends safety meetings
  • Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers
  • Performs job safely while upholding clean work environment
  • Follows HACCP standards and company safety policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned
