Job Description

The hiring establishment is a county government agency operating within the support services department, primarily focused on serving the family court system. This agency is tasked with providing essential services that support the welfare of juvenile residents under the court’s care. With a firm commitment to public service, the agency seeks to ensure that all operations, especially those directly impacting juveniles, adhere to high standards of quality, safety, and nutrition. Being a county-funded organization means it is committed to maintaining transparent and accountable service delivery, working within public sector frameworks and guidelines.

This particular role is non-exempt, falling under paygrade C-101, with an hourly salary pay rate ranging from $15.00 to $17.59. The position reports to the deputy court administrator of family court, with direct supervision from the cook supervisor. The employment opportunity is focused on delivering nutrition services that are critical to the health and well-being of juvenile residents. In this role, the cook's primary responsibility is to prepare, season, cook, and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals tailored to the dietary needs of the juveniles.

The role's scope includes reviewing daily menus, adjusting ingredient quantities according to the number of meals needed, and preparing foods following established recipes and meal plans. Additionally, the cook must be vigilant about managing special diet instructions and food allergies to ensure the safety and satisfaction of the residents. The cook is expected to skillfully operate a variety of commercial kitchen equipment including slicers, mixers, steamers, gas ranges, and steam tables while maintaining strict food safety procedures such as temperature checks and sanitary portioning.

Given the nature of the institution, this role requires clear, respectful interaction with juvenile residents and staff alike to ensure meals meet dietary specifications and accommodate reasonable requests. The cook must maintain cleanliness in all food preparation and serving areas and accurately complete multiple daily logs for production, temperature monitoring, and inventory tracking. The physical demands of the job include standing and walking for extended periods and lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds, reflecting the active nature of kitchen work.

This role also has a designated special requirement involving meal delivery logistics. Selected employees must possess a valid driver’s license and, when delivering meals by van, provide proof of insurance and comply with vehicle licensing requirements. The hiring process involves comprehensive background screenings and may include additional role-specific checks such as drug screenings and child abuse clearances, ensuring the highest standards of safety and reliability in service delivery.

Overall, this cook position is essential within the family court support services, delivering not only meals but contributing to a supportive and nurturing environment crucial for the rehabilitation and care of juvenile residents. It offers stability as a county-funded role with a clear pathway for contributing positively to public service and community welfare.
