The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is a federal agency responsible for the administration of the federal prison system in the United States. This opportunity is for the position of Cook Supervisor at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Lexington, Kentucky. The role is full-time and permanent, with a competitive hourly wage ranging from $36.87 to $43.02 under the WS-08 pay scale. There are six vacancies available. The Cook Supervisor will lead and oversee 25-30 inmate workers tasked with cooking, butchering, baking, dishwashing, vegetable preparation, and other food service duties. This position requires not only culinary expertise but also responsibility for security operations including inmate accountability, control of keys, knives, and other equipment, and conducting routine contraband searches within the work area.
The incumbent provides continuous training to inmate workers to improve their knowledge of food production, presentation, and sanitation, ensuring all meals meet standardized recipes and accommodate modified diets such as high protein or low sodium meals. Supervisory duties extend beyond culinary leadership to encompass correctional responsibilities focused on maintaining the safety and security of the institution. Candidates are expected to embody the Bureau's commitment to public safety and effective correctional management. Travel may be required for training purposes up to 25% of the time. This position also mandates completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques" training program and possession of a Food Protection Manager Certification accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Must meet selective factor of possessing a Food Protection Manager Certification accredited by ANSI
- Completion of pre-employment and background investigations including drug test and credit check
- Must pass screening related to National Crime Information Center (NCIC)
- Completion of the "Introduction to Correctional Techniques" training course
- Ability to work full-time
- Submit required documentation such as veteran preference and proof of certification
- Maximum entry age of 36 unless exempted by prior federal law enforcement coverage or veteran status
- Must adhere to conditions of employment and Special Conditions outlined by the Bureau

Job Duties
- Provide supervision and instruction to 25-30 inmate workers assigned to various cooking and food preparation roles
- Provide continual training to inmate workers on food production, presentation, and sanitation
- Oversee the receiving, storing, and issuance of food and non-food items
- Manage security operations including key control, knife and blade control, yeast control, and inmate accountability
- Conduct routine contraband searches throughout the work area
- Maintain overall security of the institution alongside correctional staff
- Ensure adherence to standardized recipes and modified diet requirements in meal preparation
