The role of Cook at Lifeways is crucial in ensuring that residents’ nutritional needs are met with care and attention to detail. This position is responsible for planning meals, purchasing food according to standardized menus and recipes, and overseeing food inventory to minimize waste. The Cook will operate large-volume cooking equipment and maintain high standards for food preparation areas, ensuring sanitation and safety compliance. This position requires a cooperative and professional approach to managing multiple tasks under pressure, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering strictly to organizational policies as well as regulatory standards including OSHA and HIPAA. Reporting directly to the management team, the Cook will also supervise and provide direction to other kitchen staff, contributing to an efficient and supportive food service operation. Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1-3 years experience in food service
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of background check and drug testing
  • Current CPR certification
  • AVADE training completion within 90 days of hire

Job Duties

  • Carefully plan meals to ensure that residents’ food needs are being met
  • Purchase food to follow posted menus and standardized recipes
  • Oversee food inventory by monitoring for proper food temperature, rotating, and storing food properly to eliminate waste
  • Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, utensils, and equipment after meals
  • Operate large-volume cooking equipment such as grills, deep-fat fryers, or griddles
  • Verify that prepared food meets the requirements for quality, quantity, and any dietary needs
  • Wash, cut, and prepare foods designated for cooking
  • Requisition food products, check inventory when delivered for accuracy and quality
  • Record supply usage for inventory and records
  • Supervise and provide direction for other Cooks at LWH
  • Ensure that food safety guidelines are followed, including sanitation and health and safety standards
  • Ability to multi-task, manage time, meet deadlines, and remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Maintain standards of confidentiality of Lifeways’ clients and records
  • Perform all work duties and activities in compliance with Lifeway’s policies/procedures, Oregon Administrative Rules, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations
