Job Description
Summit is a distinguished brand specializing in delivering high-quality food service within correctional facilities across the United States. As part of the Elior North America family, Summit is dedicated to ensuring that incarcerated individuals receive nutritious and delicious meals at every serving. Summit's mission goes beyond just food preparation; it fosters a sense of community and provides vital social interaction opportunities during mealtimes in a secure and structured environment. With a strong commitment to quality, safety, and operational excellence, Summit plays a critical role in supporting correctional institutions by maintaining high standards of food service.
As a Cook Supervisor within the Corrections segment located in Norfolk, Virginia, this full-time onsite role offers a compelling opportunity to manage and lead culinary operations in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The Cook Supervisor will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the work of employees, ensuring that all established standards for quality, sanitation, and efficiency are strictly adhered to. The role demands a high level of culinary expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to function effectively in a team-oriented setting. The Cook Supervisor contributes significantly to the success of the food service operation by instructing and mentoring employees, maintaining meal preparation schedules, and guaranteeing that food quality—appearance, portion sizes, and temperature—meets Summit's rigorous standards.
This position requires an individual with prior culinary experience, particularly in high-volume establishments focusing on scratch cooking, and a deep understanding of culinary techniques and methods. Attention to detail is crucial in this role, as it directly impacts the quality and safety of meals provided. Additionally, the ideal candidate excels in multitasking, customer service, and team supervision. Holding responsibilities such as staff training and ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations, the Cook Supervisor is instrumental in delivering an exceptional dining experience within correctional facilities.
Compensation for this role is competitive, offering an hourly wage of $18.50. Employees benefit from a comprehensive range of benefits designed to support their health, well-being, and professional growth. Health benefits include medical coverage for full-time employees, dental, and vision plans, supplemented by voluntary offerings like accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance. Additional perks such as a discount program, commuter benefits, employee assistance programs (EAP), 401k retirement options, sick time, holiday pay encompassing nine paid holidays, tuition reimbursement for full-time employees, and paid time off further enhance the total compensation package.
Summit, through Elior North America, champions equal employment opportunities and actively promotes diversity and inclusion. The organization supports the professional development of its employees by providing opportunities for growth within various segments or at the corporate level. The commitment to fostering a nurturing work environment where all employees can thrive is a hallmark of the company culture. This dynamic and rewarding position is ideal for motivated culinary professionals who are passionate about food service and eager to make a positive impact within correctional institution kitchens.
