Job Description

Summit is a dedicated food service provider specializing in serving correctional institutions across the United States. Their mission is to ensure that incarcerated individuals receive nutritious and delicious meals during each service. Summit is committed to fostering a positive environment where food not only nourishes but also enhances social interaction for inmates during mealtimes. This focus on quality and care within correctional facilities underscores Summit's commitment to improving the well-being of those in their care.

As part of Elior North America, Summit benefits from the larger organization's dedication to diversity, employee development, and career growth. Elior North America is an equal opportunity employer that embraces applicants from all walks of life and strives to create an inclusive environment where each team member can thrive. They prioritize skill development and provide pathways for advancement across their various brand segments and corporate offices. Joining Summit means becoming part of a supportive community that values growth, respect, and purposeful work.

The role available is for a Cook Supervisor at a correctional facility kitchen located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This full-time, onsite position offers an overnight shift from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM and includes a competitive hourly wage of $20.00, alongside a $300 sign-on bonus. The Cook Supervisor position is critical in ensuring kitchen operations run efficiently and comply with established standards of quality and safety in a fast-paced environment with high meal volume.

In this role, the Cook Supervisor will be charged with coordinating and supervising kitchen employees to maintain smooth workflow and adherence to food service protocols. This includes instructing and training staff in all food service and sanitation procedures, ensuring timely meal preparation, and validating that portion sizes, food appearance, and temperatures meet the required standards. The supervisor will also uphold high culinary standards by implementing proper cooking methods and maintaining quality assurance throughout service.

Candidates for this role will ideally have prior culinary experience of at least one year in a high-volume, quality-focused establishment, with a strong emphasis on scratch cooking techniques. However, Summit is willing to train motivated individuals with no prior experience who demonstrate a commitment to learning and excellence. A strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are essential skills for success in this dynamic environment.

The ideal candidate will also bring leadership skills, having experience supervising a team, to foster a cooperative and productive kitchen atmosphere. Food Handler certification is preferred to ensure comprehensive knowledge of health and safety practices.

Summit offers an attractive compensation package that includes not only a competitive hourly rate but also numerous benefits to support employee health, well-being, and financial security. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, voluntary accident and critical illness coverage, commuter benefits, an employee assistance program, 401k plans, paid sick time, holiday pay for nine holidays, tuition reimbursement for full-time employees, and paid time off.

By joining Summit and Elior North America, applicants will be embarking on a career path with a company that values integrity, quality, and community impact, providing meaningful work in the corrections food service sector while fostering professional growth and development.
