The Cook Lead position at Intermountain Health's American Fork Hospital in Utah is a pivotal role within the Culinary Services department that requires a skilled and experienced culinary professional to plan, prepare, and cook foods for a variety of settings including the cafe, patient services, and catering operations. This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, with shifts from 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm throughout the week including weekends as part of a flexible schedule designed to meet business needs. The Cook Lead is not only responsible for food preparation but also serves as the team leader when other culinary leadership is not on-site, tasked with resolving immediate issues and ensuring that quality and service standards are consistently met.

This position demands a high level of culinary expertise, attention to safe food handling protocols, and the ability to follow recipes and instructions precisely. The Cook Lead oversees large scale food production, assembly of specialty meals, and managing workflow efficiently to maintain proper product rotation and quantity. Interaction with customers across several venues plays a key part in this role, highlighting the importance of communication and customer service skills. Additional responsibilities may include delivering patient meals, cashier duties, stocking supplies, and operating ware-washing equipment.

Beyond food production, the Cook Lead provides after-hours supervision to sustain a disciplined work environment in the absence of supervisors or chefs, ensuring smooth operations at all times. Physical demands include standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and working in varied temperature conditions. To succeed in this role, one must be organized, able to prioritize tasks, and work independently or collaboratively as required.

Candidates must either possess or obtain a Food Handler Permit or ServSafe certification by the first day of work, with additional training requirements applicable within 90 days if certification is not current. Preferred qualifications include at least three years of cooking experience in healthcare or restaurant settings and familiarity with commercial cooking equipment.

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Follow recipes and/or instructions in the preparation of food items
  • prepare bulk food items, large scale production, line cook or complete assembly of specialty meals and catered items
  • maintain an organized and sanitary working environment
  • maintain proper quantities of production with appropriate rotation of product
  • interact with customers in any venue-catering, retail outlets or patient care
  • deliver patient meals, cashier, stock, use automatic and manual ware-washing machines as required
  • support a disciplined environment and provide after hours supervision in the absence of the supervisor or Chef
