Job Description

The Rivers at Grosse Pointe Woods is a well-established health and rehabilitation center dedicated to providing exceptional care to seniors in a nurturing and respectful environment. As part of the Riverview Health Retirement Communities, this facility is focused on enabling seniors to age with dignity and independence while their healthcare needs and lifestyles evolve. Known for delivering high-quality personal and compassionate care, The Rivers at Grosse Pointe Woods creates an active and engaging community for its residents. The center's mission is to be a premier health and rehabilitation provider by consistently exceeding the expectations of its residents, their families, and its employees. This commitment towards excellence has made The Rivers a trusted name in senior care in the Grosse Pointe area. The institution firmly believes in fostering a culture of respect and joy among its residents and staff alike, creating a supportive and positive atmosphere throughout its operations.

The role of the Cook is a crucial and dynamic position within the Dining Services team at The Rivers. This individual will play an integral part in ensuring the highest quality food service experience is delivered to the residents. Working closely with leadership and fellow dietary team members, the cook is responsible for preparing nutritious and well-presented meals that meet the specific dietary needs identified in menus and diet orders. The ideal candidate is a motivated team player who is passionate about working with seniors and committed to upholding the organization’s values of respect and joy. Customer service excellence is a key aspect of this role, as will be the ability to collaborate effectively with other team members to maintain consistent meal quality and presentation standards.

In this full-time position, the cook must adhere to all state and federal regulations concerning food safety and sanitation, ensuring a clean and safe environment for food preparation and service. Duties include following recipes, portion controls, and presentation standards set by the Dietary Manager. Attention to detail is essential when handling, storing, and rotating products to maintain freshness and reduce waste. Additionally, this role requires tracking and reporting any food waste as part of the ongoing effort to optimize food service operations. Those with prior experience in institutional food service settings, particularly within long-term care or geriatric environments, will find that their skills are directly applicable and valued in this position.

The Rivers at Grosse Pointe Woods offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision plans, providing employees with peace of mind regarding their healthcare needs. Full-time employees also receive 100% employer-paid life insurance, a robust 401(k) retirement plan, generous time off provisions that allow employees to earn leave as they work, as well as tuition reimbursement and scholarship programs that support further education and professional development. The workplace culture promotes equal employment opportunity, valuing diversity and inclusion regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected classification. This inclusive environment encourages applicants from all backgrounds to consider joining the passionate and innovative Dining Services team, contributing to the mission of delivering exceptional care and service to senior residents.
