Job Description
DCH Health System is a reputable healthcare provider committed to delivering quality health services and nutritional care to patients and customers. As a recognized establishment in the healthcare industry, DCH Health System supports a diverse team dedicated to promoting health and wellness through comprehensive patient care. The organization is well-known for its commitment to safety, customer satisfaction, and adherence to operational excellence across multiple departments, including nutritional services.
The role of the Cook at DCH Health System is vital in ensuring the preparation of a variety of regular and modified cooked and baked products tailored for patients and other customers, providing both nutritional value and culinary satisfaction. This position requires hands-on involvement in food preparation, cooking, and presentation while guaranteeing compliance with established food safety and hygiene standards. The Cook operates within a dynamic and fast-paced environment, working closely with kitchen and service staff to coordinate food production and delivery that meets the organization's high-quality standards.
Key aspects of this role include managing requisitions for food and supplies, maintaining menus and recipes for specific stations, and being proficient with all kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, steam tables, mixers, and dish machines. The role also involves promoting and coordinating buffet setups and food station layouts as directed by managerial staff. A critical responsibility is upholding the HAACP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) program by ensuring proper food storage and temperature maintenance along with adhering to rigorous cleaning and task schedules.
This Cook position may require working variable shifts to meet the needs of the department and relies heavily on both teamwork and independent work. As part of DCH Health System, the candidate must comply with the system's policies and behavioral standards, focusing on creating positive relationships internally and externally. Physical demands of the job include standing, walking, kneeling, and lifting moderately heavy objects regularly. Given the food service environment, the candidate must tolerate exposure to hot and occasionally cold working conditions while maintaining strict safety practices to prevent injury.
Applicants should have a foundational knowledge in food service, ideally with experience as a cook or assistant cook, and be able to operate standard kitchen equipment efficiently and safely. Effective communication skills, both written and oral in English, are essential for understanding and following detailed instructions for food preparation and safety. While a ServSafe certification with a minimum score of 75 percent is preferred, it is not a strict requirement, demonstrating a flexible yet committed approach to food safety compliance.
Overall, the DCH Health System Cook role demands a dedicated professional with strong culinary skills, a commitment to food safety, and the ability to contribute actively to a supportive healthcare environment. This employment opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking to grow within a reputable health service organization while making a meaningful impact through nutritional care and quality food service.
