The role of Cook at Church's Chicken is critical to maintaining these high standards in food production. Reporting directly to the Restaurant General Manager and working within the Field Operations department, the Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking all food products according to the specifications detailed in the Church's Operating Standards Manual (OSM). The position demands a detail-oriented individual who can work efficiently while adhering strictly to the procedures that ensure consistent quality and food safety. The Cook plays a key role in the kitchen team by setting up the batter table, preparing batter mixes, and consistently monitoring and managing fryer conditions to maintain optimal product quality. This includes tasks like balancing fryers, filtering shortening, and cleaning equipment according to safety guidelines.

Beyond these primary responsibilities, the Cook must maintain cleanliness and organization within the kitchen and cooler areas by following the "clean-as-you-go" policy and ensuring all necessary supplies are adequately stocked. Given the physically demanding nature of the job, the Cook must be capable of lifting medium to heavy weights, standing for extended periods, and performing various maneuvers such as stooping, reaching overhead, and climbing ladders safely. Communication skills are important as well, since the Cook needs to coordinate with team members and management to meet operational needs and deliver excellent customer experiences.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently
  • Ability to stand or walk continuously for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to follow safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Availability to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Sets up the batter table, collects all necessary smallwares, and prepares batter mix
  • Ensures that call sheets are complete, posted and used
  • Checks all equipment and immediately reports any malfunctions within the area to the Manager in Charge
  • Color balances fryers and adds sufficient shortening to maintain proper shortening level
  • Filters and cleans all fryers at designated times following safety guidelines
  • Pans sufficient chicken for operational needs
  • Prepares and cooks all food products as directed by the Manager in Charge
  • Ensures all food products meet specifications, procedures, and quality standards including designated holding times
  • Maintains clean work area by practicing clean-as-you-go
  • Verifies all necessary product and supplies are stocked and available at batter area
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of the cooler
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Manager in Charge
