The position of Cook at Church's Chicken is an essential role within the Field Operations department, directly reporting to the Restaurant General Manager. This role is pivotal in maintaining the high standards of food preparation and cooking as per the Church's Operating Standards Manual (OSM) to provide customers with consistently great-tasting meals. The cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food products following established recipes and procedures, managing equipment and supplies, and adhering to safety and sanitation protocols. This position demands a detail-oriented individual who works efficiently in a fast-paced environment to accomplish tasks timely while ensuring a clean and orderly workspace.
The Cook's duties cover a broad spectrum of responsibilities, from setting up the batter table and preparing batter mixes to managing fryer operations, ensuring proper shortening levels, and filtering and cleaning fryers according to safety guidelines. They must pan sufficient chicken to meet operational needs and cook all food products as dictated by the business demand and under the direction of the Manager in Charge of the Shift. Ensuring every food item meets the exact specifications and quality standards of the OSM, including observing designated holding times, is critical.
In addition to primary cooking functions, the Cook must maintain cleanliness by adopting clean-as-you-go practices while following all sanitation and safety procedures. They are tasked with verifying the stock of necessary products and supplies at the batter area and keeping the cooler organized and clean. The role requires physical stamina to perform medium to heavy lifting, standing, walking for extended periods, and maneuvering equipment and supplies within the kitchen and restaurant. The Cook must also continuously communicate with customers, management, and team members to ensure smooth operations and meet customer expectations.

Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- ability to follow recipes and cooking instructions
- experience in a commercial kitchen or food service environment preferred
- ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally
- ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours
- detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- must be able to communicate effectively with team members and management

Job Duties
- sets up the batter table, collects all necessary smallwares, and prepares batter mix
- ensures that call sheets are complete, posted and used
- checks all equipment and immediately reports any malfunctions within the area to the Manager in Charge
- color balances fryers and adds sufficient shortening to maintain proper shortening level
- filters and cleans all fryers at designated times following safety guidelines
- pans sufficient chicken for operational needs
- prepares and cooks food products as directed by the Manager in Charge
- ensures all food products meet specifications, procedures, and quality standards including holding times
- maintains a clean work area by practicing clean-as-you-go and following sanitation and safety procedures
- verifies all necessary products and supplies are stocked at the batter area
- maintains organization and cleanliness of the cooler
- performs other tasks assigned by the Manager in Charge
