The role of the Cook at Peak View Behavioral Health is vital in ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors receive nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks that support their health and recovery. This position is responsible for implementing menus that meet approved dietary guidelines and adhere to food service policies, sanitary standards, and dietary restrictions such as allergies and sensitivities. Working onsite at the Colorado Springs facility, the Cook prepares and serves meals in a timely manner, managing food safety through accurate temperature control, proper storage, and inventory management. The Cook also takes a proactive role in maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen environment, following infection control procedures to ensure safety.

With a pay range of $18.00 to $19.50 per hour, this part-time weekend position offers an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare environment, supporting individuals in need of behavioral health services. The Cook works independently without supervisory responsibilities but is integral to the food service team, coordinating food preparation and serving activities while assisting with inventory and cleaning duties. Candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in institutional food service, such as hospitals or cafeterias, are encouraged to apply. Certification in food safety such as SERV Safe is required as per facility or state guidelines.

Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two or more years of experience in food service for institutional settings preferred
  • Serv Safe Certification or equivalent food safety certification as required
  • Ability to work onsite at the Colorado Springs facility
  • Availability to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Capability to follow dietary guidelines and sanitary procedures
  • Physical ability to perform cooking, cleaning and inventory tasks

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Two or more years' experience in food service preparing food for institutions such as schools, hospitals, or cafeterias preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to follow recipes and portion controls accurately
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment
  • Serv Safe Certification or similar food safety certification required where applicable

Job Duties

  • Plan and prepare foods in accordance with facility policies, dietary guidelines and menus provided by supervisor or Dietician
  • Plan individual cooking schedule to ensure all foods for regular and therapeutic menus and special functions are properly cooked and ready timely
  • Follow recipes and portioning procedures to prepare meats, entrees, gravies, casseroles, vegetables, soups, salads, and desserts
  • Store and prepare food safely, maintaining temperature logs, stock rotation, labeling and discarding outdated food
  • Set up steam tables attractively and label food according to modification
  • Prepare leftover food for proper storage and assist with cleaning steam table and pans
  • Direct activities of staff assisting in food preparation and serving
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of kitchen and equipment
  • Conduct inventory checks and inspect supplies and food products
  • Apply culinary and cooking techniques for special or restrictive dietary requirements
