Job Description
Valor Home Summit is a dedicated service provider committed to supporting veterans through various therapeutic and community-focused programs. Situated in a caring and structured environment, this establishment offers a unique blend of health, wellness, and support services targeting veterans who benefit from specialized therapeutic care. With a mission to enhance the lives of veterans, Valor Home Summit emphasizes delivering quality services that promote well-being, self-sufficiency, and community integration. This organization is deeply committed to maintaining a nurturing environment where veterans receive compassionate care tailored to their specific needs and preferences.
The Cook-PRN position at Valor Home Summit is a crucial role that supports the daily nutritional needs of the veteran community within the therapeutic setting. This shift worker role is designed for individuals seeking to work 20 hours or less per week, primarily covering weekends and some weekdays as needed. Offering an hourly wage of $15.00, this position provides a flexible schedule that fits well with part-time employment preferences while contributing meaningfully to a vital service area.
In this role, the cook is responsible for managing a busy kitchen that serves up to 30 veterans. Collaborating closely with other cooks and program staff, the cook ensures that meals are nutritious, of good quality, and prepared according to established menus and dietary considerations. The role demands creativity, enthusiasm, and a passionate commitment to food preparation, ensuring that every meal not only meets nutritional standards but also provides comfort and satisfaction to the veterans served.
Beyond meal preparation, the cook is entrusted with planning menus and ordering supplies to maintain the efficient operation of the kitchen. This involves careful coordination to ensure that resources are well-managed and that the kitchen adheres strictly to agency policies, certificate of accreditation regulations, and all relevant federal and state requirements. Compliance with educational, certification, and registry mandates is also essential to sustaining a compliant and professionally operated kitchen facility.
Successful candidates for this position demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work well within a team-oriented environment. The role requires physical capability to handle kitchen tasks that include lifting objects up to 10 pounds and standing or walking for extended periods. Additionally, the cook must hold a valid Ohio Driver's License and meet specific agency driving insurability requirements, maintaining high standards for personal and professional accountability.
Safety and compliance are of paramount importance in the therapeutic setting, compelling the cook to pass a thorough criminal background check conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation. Holding a ServSafe Certification is also mandatory to ensure the highest standards of food safety are met consistently.
This position is ideal for those who have demonstrated experience in nutrition and kitchen management, particularly with managing busy kitchen operations including menu setting, supply ordering, and meal preparation. Though no formal education or licensure is required, a strong background in the culinary field and a deep passion for working within veteran services is vital.
Overall, this part-time cook position at Valor Home Summit offers an enriching opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of veterans by providing quality meals that support their therapeutic and nutritional needs. The collaborative and dedicated work environment further enhances job satisfaction and professional growth for individuals passionate about food service and veteran care.
