The role of Cook at Arden Courts is integral to the successful operation of the Culinary Services department. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing appetizing and nutritious meals for residents, meeting their specific dietary needs while maintaining high standards of food quality and safety. This position requires a hands-on approach to food preparation as well as collaboration with the Culinary Services Coordinator to manage food service functions efficiently. The ideal candidate should possess tact, sensitivity, and professionalism to support the creation of a calm and positive dining experience for elderly individuals, many of whom may have special needs related to aging or dementia.

This position offers PRN (pro re nata or as-needed) employment, allowing for schedule flexibility which is ideal for those seeking part-time or supplemental work. The Cook is expected to maintain cleanliness, safety, and comfort in all food preparation and service areas, adhering to state and local health regulations including holding a Food Service Sanitation certificate. Previous experience in food preparation is required, with preference given to candidates who have knowledge and experience working with elderly populations and those with dementia. Physical demands of the role include standing, walking, bending, squatting for extended periods, and the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in food preparation required
  • Knowledge and experience in working with elderly populations
  • Previous dementia experience preferred
  • Food Service Sanitation certificate according to state or local requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and squat for prolonged periods
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Basic reading and writing skills
  • Ability to speak English in an understandable manner
