Job Description

Intermountain Health is a comprehensive healthcare system known for its innovative approach to patient care, focusing heavily on the concept of food as medicine. Unlike traditional institutional hospital food services, Intermountain employs professional chefs, culinary leaders, cooks, and nutrition care associates to offer restaurant-quality dining experiences within hospitals. This unique approach reflects a guest-centric culture of hospitality aimed at enhancing the well-being of both patients and caregivers. The organization is committed to providing high-quality, nutritious meals that support patient health outcomes and foster a nourishing environment throughout its healthcare facilities.

The position available is that of a Food Production Worker at Intermountain Health St George Regional Hospital in Utah. This role is essential in maintaining the quality and safety of food served within the hospital and various other catering and retail venues. The position operates under general supervision and involves duties like preparing and cooking food, serving customers, and ensuring sanitary conditions in the food preparation environment. This role is offered on a PRN basis, meaning on call or as needed, with a pay rate that ranges based on experience between $19.31 and $25.11 per hour. The schedule typically requires availability Monday through Friday from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with occasional weekend coverage. Although this is a non-benefits-eligible position, it offers valuable experience working within a dynamic food services team committed to transforming hospital nutrition.

The Food Production Worker plays a critical role in ensuring that all food items are prepared according to recipes and safety guidelines, which includes the preparation of bulk food items and specialty meals for events and patient care. The employee is expected to maintain organized and sanitary workspaces, properly rotate products to maintain freshness and safety, and interact professionally with customers across all service settings. Key activities involve not only cooking but also housekeeping tasks like stocking, cashiering, dishwashing (using both manual and automatic machines), and potentially delivering meals to patients.

Success in this role requires strong food handling knowledge, adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, proficiency in food production, and the ability to follow detailed instructions and recipes accurately. Communication skills and organizational abilities are essential to navigate the fast-paced environment effectively while maintaining quality standards.

Intermountain Health values the professional development and well-being of its employees, offering a supportive work culture and numerous programs aimed at fostering wellness across mind, body, and spirit. The organization is an equal opportunity employer that prides itself on inclusivity and fairness throughout its hiring and recruitment processes. Using advanced technologies such as AI-enhanced platforms to improve applicant experience and ensure unbiased recruitment decisions further underscores Intermountain's commitment to innovation and ethical employment practices.

This role, based in St George, Utah, offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a healthcare environment that prioritizes nutritious food and exceptional service, aiming to positively impact patient and caregiver experiences every day.
