Job Description

Oceans Healthcare is a reputable healthcare provider committed to expanding and enhancing behavioral health services in Jackson. As part of their growth strategy, Oceans Healthcare is expanding inpatient capacity specifically designed for adult and senior behavioral health patients. Situated on the St. Dominic's campus, this 77-bed freestanding hospital will provide comprehensive inpatient care along with new service offerings such as an intensive outpatient program. This expansion demonstrates Oceans Healthcare's dedication to meeting the growing demand for quality behavioral health services in the region while maintaining their mission to provide compassionate and effective care for all patients.

The company is currently seeking a dedicated Cook to join their team at the Jackson facility. This role is pivotal in supporting patient well-being by ensuring the preparation of nutritious and therapeutic meals tailored to individual patient needs. The Cook will be responsible for preparing meals according to standardized recipes, dietary restrictions, and physician orders while maintaining strict adherence to health and safety guidelines. Working within a healthcare setting, the Cook will plan cooking schedules, direct kitchen assistants, and oversee food safety standards to guarantee patient satisfaction and compliance with Joint Commission, federal, and state regulations.

This position requires a culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced and somewhat stressful environment, capable of balancing quality, timeliness, and meticulous attention to detail. Working mostly indoors under varied temperature conditions and with exposure to kitchen chemicals, this role demands physical stamina, including the ability to perform heavy lifting and manage long periods of standing. Ideal candidates should possess a minimum of two years of cooking experience in a hospital or nursing home setting, complemented by formal culinary education. A thorough understanding of therapeutic diets, the ability to follow precise recipes and measurement guidelines, and the capacity to lead and coordinate kitchen staff are essential.

The Cook will also play an essential role in maintaining the kitchen’s cleanliness, sanitization, and equipment readiness. Preparing for upcoming menus and making necessary food substitutions while adhering to the facility's policies are critical to the job’s success. Additionally, this position involves successfully completing CPR certification and Oceans’ approved behavioral health de-escalation training, ensuring a safe working environment that aligns with the mission and values of the organization.

Overall, this role offers an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals interested in contributing to healthcare by delivering high-quality dietary care that directly impacts patient recovery and satisfaction. The successful candidate will become an integral member of a dynamic team dedicated to expanding behavioral health services and improving community health outcomes.
