Salemtowne is a well-established senior living community dedicated to providing exceptional care and dining experiences to its residents. Located in a clean, well-lighted, and ventilated environment, Salemtowne focuses on maintaining high standards of nutrition, sanitation, and customer satisfaction within its food services department. As a respected organization, Salemtowne is committed to upholding state and county health department standards and continuously improving its dining offerings to enhance the well-being and comfort of its residents and guests. The community fosters a culture known as Salemtowne Shines, which emphasizes teamwork, customer service, and a positive workplace atmosphere. The position of Cook within Salemtowne is an essential role that contributes directly to the health and satisfaction of residents by preparing quality meals that comply with nutritional and sanitary guidelines.
The Cook at Salemtowne plays a vital role in the kitchen operations, ensuring that all food prepared meets the highest safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include strictly monitoring food temperatures according to regulatory requirements, recording these temperatures in a Food Temperature Log, and taking corrective action when needed. Maintaining sanitary working conditions is another key function, involving adherence to cleaning schedules for food preparation areas and utensils as established by health authorities. The Cook follows approved menus, recipes, and food production sheets to consistently deliver nutritious and appealing meals. Beyond daily cooking tasks, the Cook also helps control food costs by properly storing leftovers, monitoring waste, and contributing suggestions for reducing food waste.
This role requires an individual with a strong understanding of food preparation methods, kitchen equipment, and sanitation practices. The Cook must be able to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic kitchen environment, maintaining composure during busy periods. Good communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to collaborate effectively within the team and to uphold the community’s philosophy. Additionally, this position supports other departments by preparing special meals for various events and projects, further enhancing resident satisfaction and community engagement.
Salemtowne seeks candidates with at least two years of experience in the food service industry, preferably in high-volume kitchens, and a high school diploma or GED. Physical stamina is necessary for standing and walking for extended periods and lifting objects weighing over 50 pounds. The role offers an opportunity to be part of a collaborative and supportive team focused on delivering excellent food service in a senior living setting, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, safety, and nutritional value.
