Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • culinary training preferred
  • appropriate health certification as required by local state and federal health departments
  • knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • ability to lift and carry a minimum of 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally
  • ability to stand for long periods and perform physical kitchen duties including stirring, sifting, cutting, slicing, reaching, bending
  • ability to read and follow directions and recipes
  • willingness to work flexible day and evening shifts
  • ability to maintain confidentiality of residents’ personal information
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Qualifications

  • Possess education that provides skills to read, comprehend, and follow recipes and procedures
  • high school graduate or equivalent
  • culinary training preferred
  • appropriate health certification as required by local state and federal health departments
  • knowledge of menu planning for geriatric residents
  • excellent cooking and baking skills
  • knowledge of restricted diets such as diabetic, low fat, salt free, liquid
  • interpersonal skills to communicate with residents and staff
  • compassion and genuine care for the elderly
  • knowledge of MSDS sheets and hazard guidelines
  • ability to work independently and prioritize workload
  • ability to expand recipes

Job Duties

  • Cook meals according to established recipes and menus
  • assist Culinary Services Director in creating menus that meet nutritional needs and accommodate food preferences
  • present meals that are visually pleasing and appetizing
  • set up kitchen and prep according to each day’s menu, prep for next day
  • clean dishes, floors, walls, and kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary guidelines
  • maintain organized, clean, and safe storeroom, coolers, and kitchen
  • assist in planning and cooking special meals
