The Prep Cook at Derby City Gaming Downtown plays a critical role in maintaining the high standards of food preparation and service that guests expect. This position involves safely preparing food items in accordance with menu specifications and standardized recipes, ensuring that each dish meets the quality and presentation standards dictated by the kitchen Leadership Team. The Prep Cook collaborates closely with chefs and shift leaders, assisting in the preparation of both pantry and hot line items for daily service, supporting the creation of daily specials, and maintaining sanitary working conditions compliant with Local, State, and Federal Health Department regulations. This role requires adaptability as the prep cook may be assigned to various stations or outlets within the gaming and hospitality environment. In addition to culinary tasks, the candidate is expected to contribute to a fun-filled, entertaining, and exciting atmosphere that prioritizes flawless service and guest satisfaction. Excellent communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment are fundamental to success. The role also involves physical activity including sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and moving objects, often in moderate to loud working conditions. Candidates must meet certain educational and licensing requirements, including either a high school diploma or GED equivalence, relevant experience, and the ability to obtain a valid Racing License. Job Duties
- Create and ensure a fun-filled, entertaining and exciting environment where service excellence is paramount
- prepare food as directed by the Chef or Shift Leader to the specifications of recipes and standards
- follow standardized recipes and presentation procedures to specific detail
- assist in preparation of all pantry and hot line items for daily service
- properly store and label all food products
- perform related duties in any or for station or outlet assigned
- assist with daily specials
- meet or exceed industry standards for preparation, serving and storing of food
- ensure that the working area is clean and sanitary according to health department codes
- promote outstanding guest relations
- promote honesty and trust among the team
- perform all other duties assigned
