Job Description
Merrimack Health is a private, nonprofit community hospital that has been serving the Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire regions for over 140 years. Known for its patient-centered and compassionate approach, Merrimack Health delivers high-quality healthcare services to individuals and families across the community. The hospital prides itself on a team of dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff who work tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of the people they serve. Merrimack Health values diversity and inclusivity, committing to hiring a workforce that reflects the community's rich diversity. They offer competitive pay, a robust benefits package, generous paid time off, and free parking to support their employees' overall well-being and work-life balance.
The current opportunity is for a Per Diem Cook position based at the Methuen campus of Merrimack Health. This role is pivotal in supporting the food services department by assisting in the preparation and production of patient meals, retail food service offerings, and catering events. The pay range for this position is $16.45 to $24.45 per hour, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses. The final pay rate is determined considering factors such as education, experience, licensure, and internal equity. The Per Diem nature of the role means flexibility in scheduling and work assignments is a key aspect.
As a Cook, you will work closely with the food services management team to prepare hot and cold meals according to recipe specifications while minimizing waste and contributing to the department’s financial stewardship. Planning ahead is essential in this role, with duties including reviewing menus and preparing production schedules at least three days in advance to meet department needs. You will also be responsible for maintaining food service equipment sanitation following daily, weekly, and monthly schedules to ensure a safe and clean working environment.
The role requires adherence to rigorous safety and sanitation standards as outlined by regulatory bodies including The Board of Health, The Joint Commission, and HACCP guidelines. Proper handling of cooking, cooling, reheating, holding, storage, labeling, and serving of food are critical responsibilities. Safe operation of all food service equipment is mandatory.
Candidates should be capable of following both verbal and written instructions clearly and be flexible with work hours and duties as assigned. Required qualifications include the ability to read and follow oral directions in English and at least one year of related experience. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and certifications such as ServSafe or a culinary degree, which demonstrate a commitment to food safety and culinary expertise.
Merrimack Health’s commitment to transparency extends to this position’s salary and benefits, ensuring candidates understand the compensation framework and growth opportunities within the organization. The hospital not only provides meaningful work but also prioritizes employee welfare through comprehensive benefits and a supportive working environment.
This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about food preparation in a healthcare setting and who value working within a team dedicated to patient-centered care and operational excellence. Joining Merrimack Health means becoming part of a respected institution with a strong community focus and a legacy of delivering compassionate healthcare and support services.
