Within this esteemed healthcare environment, the role of a Cook plays a critical part in supporting the overall wellness and satisfaction of patients, visitors, and staff. This position involves working directly within the Nutrition Services department, collaborating with a team of fellow cooks to coordinate menus and cater various dining needs across the hospital, cafeteria, and special events. The Cook is primarily responsible for preparing main dishes, ensuring food quality meets stringent standards, and assisting in various food preparation procedures adhering to recognized recipes and practices. This role demands attention to detail, organizational skills, and a passion for delivering meals that promote healing and comfort.
The Cook must preview menus and assess the types and quantities of meats, vegetables, soups, and other ingredients required, planning production schedules to ensure timely and high-quality meal service. Batch cooking techniques are utilized to maintain freshness and optimal serving temperature. This position is also responsible for seasoning and cooking food to achieve excellent taste and presentation consistently. The Cook measures and mixes ingredients precisely, working closely with chefs and supervisors to plan next day's meal production. Maintaining clean, well-functioning equipment and workstations is an essential part of the duties, along with strict adherence to sanitation standards through documentation like HAACP logs, production sheets, cooling logs, and cleaning schedules.
Physically, the role requires stamina and strength, involving prolonged standing and walking for up to eight hours daily, frequent lifting of heavy items up to 75 pounds, and the ability to perform repetitive hand movements. Experience and training in large-scale institutional food preparation are crucial for success in this demanding role. The position requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of prior experience cooking in large-scale food production environments.

Job Requirements

- two years previous experience in large scale food preparation
- training in institutional food preparation
- ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods up to eight hours per day
- ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds
- ability to perform repetitive hand movements requiring firm grasping, twisting, and turning
- ability to follow sanitation standards and maintain proper documentation
- physical ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level occasionally
- must possess normal vision, hearing, and touch related to job duties
