UHS, recognized as a Fortune 500 corporation, boasts annual revenues of $15.8 billion in 2024 and employs approximately 99,000 individuals across various healthcare settings throughout the United States, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom. The hospital itself is a 148-bed private inpatient psychiatric institution offering comprehensive care for children through adults. Services encompass full assessments, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient psychiatric treatment, and chemical dependency outpatient care. Conveniently located near essential public transportation options such as AC Transit, BART, and the ACE Train, Fremont Hospital combines accessibility with a commitment to quality care and patient well-being.
We are currently hiring a per diem Cook for Dietary and Food Services at Fremont Hospital who plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the kitchen. This role offers the flexibility to cover both AM and PM shifts as needed, providing an excellent opportunity for individuals motivated to pursue a career in healthcare and compassionate service. The Cook is responsible for the preparation and service of breakfast, lunch, and dinner for patients and facility staff, strictly adhering to approved diet manuals and production sheets. Beyond meal preparation, the role includes general oversight of the kitchen's operation, ensuring timely and safe execution of meals, managing on-unit snack provisions, and maintaining proper stock levels to meet dietary needs consistently. Ensuring compliance with safe food handling and kitchen safety protocols is paramount, requiring conscientious oversight and engagement with all kitchen staff to uphold these standards.
The position is staffed under a per diem employment type, offering competitive compensation and opportunities for professional growth within UHS’s extensive network of over 300 locations. In addition to the hands-on meal preparation and kitchen management duties, the Cook benefits from a supportive work environment that encourages career development through programs like tuition assistance, access to free continuing education courses via the HealthStream online learning catalog, and pathways for advancement within Universal Health Services. The hospital also provides a generous benefits package including excellent medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug plans, alongside 401(k) retirement plans with company matching, pet insurance, and the SoFi Student Loan Refinancing Program.
Candidates interested in joining Fremont Hospital can expect to engage in meaningful work that directly contributes to the care and comfort of patients. This role is ideal for those who have some degree of experience or training in quantity cooking, modified diets, or food service sanitation, and who are eager to be part of a reputable healthcare institution dedicated to excellence and compassionate care. With a focus on safety, quality, and patient-centered service, the per diem Cook position offers a dynamic, rewarding work environment where healthcare meets culinary expertise.
