The role of Cook Team Lead at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is a vital part of the hospital's food service team, responsible for preparing and cooking a wide variety of foods including meats, vegetables, soups, breakfast items, and other dishes. The position involves both leadership and hands-on cooking duties to ensure that all food is prepared according to prescribed recipes and quality standards. This role requires careful planning and coordination to manage food supplies, prepare special diets, and maintain the cleanliness and functionality of cooking areas and equipment. The Cook Team Lead is also responsible for catering special events and addressing day-to-day issues related to food supplies and kitchen equipment. With 5 to 7 years of cooking experience required, the role demands a high level of culinary skill and knowledge of food preparation techniques, along with organizational abilities to supervise inventory and order stock effectively. This job does not involve patient care duties but supports the hospital's broader mission by providing nutritious and high-quality meals to patients, staff, and visitors. Job Duties

  • receives food ingredients and supplies from main kitchen and pantry as required for daily operations
  • reviews production schedule to determine food requirements including variety and quantity of food for preparation and to assemble supplies and equipment needed for daily cooking activities
  • prepares and displays a wide variety of foods such as vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, salads, simple pastries/breads and cereals in accordance with prescribed recipes using a full range of cooking methods
  • tests foods being cooked for quality
  • completes production sheets and other records as required
  • maintains clean work areas, utensils, and equipment
  • caters special events as required
  • attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies
  • detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions
  • prepares special diets according to prescribed standards
  • records inventory and/or orders stock
