Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • two years experience as a cook preferred
  • ability to read, write, and comprehend English
  • ability to operate various food service equipment
  • must be able to stand, walk, kneel, sit or stoop with good balance for extended periods
  • able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 35 lbs regularly
  • normal or corrected hearing and vision
  • able to work in hot, humid environment and occasionally in low temperatures
  • adherence to DCH Health System policies and behavioral standards
  • must complete and update ServSafe course
  • willingness to work variable shifts
  • physical presence onsite is essential

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • able to read, write and understand English
  • able to interpret and follow detailed written and oral instructions
  • two years of experience as a cook preferred
  • able to operate a variety of food service equipment such as fryers, choppers, steamers
  • ServSafe class with minimum score of 75% preferred but not required
  • effective communication skills

Job Duties

  • Performs all duties of an Assistant Cook
  • promotes and coordinates standard and special set up and layout of buffets and stations of food items as set by Manager or Supervisor
  • manages requisitions for food and supplies, menu maintenance and recipe maintenance of specific food stations
  • proficient in use and set-up of equipment related to food production and customer service such as carving board and lamps, patio grills, butane burners, pizza oven
  • prepares and cooks a wide variety of foods following standardized recipes to achieve required taste, appearance and nutritional standards
  • quickly and accurately adjusts recipes through basic cooking principles and elementary math skills
  • maintains work area and equipment in a clean, sanitary condition
  • promotes customer service through effective completion of assignments according to schedule and timelines
  • understands and follows oral and written directions
  • maintains, promotes and enforces HAACP program including proper storage and temperature maintenance, time and task schedules and cleaning schedules
  • performs duties of cook assistant, server and janitor as well as limited bakery and pastry responsibilities
  • reconciles food usage through hands on administration and tracking resources and systems
  • adheres to all DCH Health System and Nutritional Services policies and procedures
  • may require working variable shifts
  • performs essential job functions ensuring safety of patients, visitors and employees
  • identifies and reduces unsafe practices
  • uses electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet
  • all other duties as assigned
