The role of the part-time/On Call Cook at Clearwater at South Bay revolves around preparing food of the highest quality and taste for residents, guests, and associates. This position demands a dedicated culinary professional who can ensure that every meal aligns with provided recipes and planned menus, paying close attention to nutrition, taste, and presentation. The Cook plays a crucial role in maintaining compliance with governmental, sanitary, and dietitian regulations while adhering to Clearwater’s own standards and policies. Key responsibilities include preparing appetizing meals, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, properly storing and labeling food, managing inventory, and assisting with supervising dishwashers when culinary management is absent. The cook must work collaboratively with the Chef to manage menu changes and substitutions efficiently.

This position requires the Cook to have open availability with weekend shifts, emphasizing flexibility and commitment. Safeguarding food safety by monitoring temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers is a critical function, along with ensuring proper disposal of food waste. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • AA degree or minimum of two years of work experience in the industry preferred
  • Background clearances as required by government regulations
  • Must meet health requirements including TB
  • First Aid Certificate required

Job Duties

  • Prepare all food items in accordance with planned menus and recipes provided and ensure the meals are appetizing, nutritional, and meet any special dietary requests or requirements
  • Ensure all food is served at the correct temperature and charted as such
  • Ensure proper plate presentation
  • Consult with the Chef on any menu changes or substitutions
  • Ensure food storage areas are clean and organized at all times
  • Prepare food following governmental, sanitary, and dietitian regulations as well as established policies and procedures
  • Take care of food orders when they arrive in a timely manner
  • Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies
  • Ensure all leftovers are properly stored, labeled, and dated
  • Record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas
  • Supervise dishwashers in the absence of culinary management
  • Prepare upcoming menu items ensuring they are stocked and pulled as directed by recipes
  • Responsible for safe storage and efficient use of kitchen inventory
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and report any issues immediately
  • Comply with Clearwater Living standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient community operations
  • Display a positive and professional image through actions and maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming
  • Represent Clearwater Living principles and core values on a daily basis
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or required
