Job Description
Catholic Charities is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals and families from all walks of life, regardless of belief or background. Known for its commitment to compassionate service, Catholic Charities aims to provide support, resources, and hope to those in need throughout various communities. While rooted in its Catholic identity, the organization welcomes both employees and clients who are not Catholic, emphasizing inclusivity and respect for all individuals. This organization operates numerous programs and services designed to uplift and transform lives, demonstrating a strong community focus and a mission-driven approach to social betterment.
The Hispanic Senior Center, one of Catholic Charities’ vital initiatives, is dedicated to serving older Hispanic adults in the Greater Cleveland area. This program focuses on offering culturally sensitive recreational and social activities that cater specifically to the linguistic and cultural needs of its senior Hispanic population. The center plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive community environment where seniors can engage meaningfully with others, maintain their cultural heritage, and enjoy improved quality of life.
The position offered is a part-time role with an hourly pay rate of $18.00, averaging 25 hours per week. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about community service, bilingual in Spanish, and seeking a fulfilling career that makes a tangible difference. In this role, the employee will be responsible for preparing and serving meals according to specified meal plans using fresh ingredients. Additionally, they will provide customer service in a cafeteria-style setting, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for seniors. Maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, dining areas, and food equipment in adherence to health department standards will also be a critical aspect of the job.
This position not only demands culinary skills but also requires a dedication to serving a diverse senior community with respect and empathy. Employees are expected to contribute positively to the program’s mission of enriching the lives of Hispanic seniors, supporting their socialization and cultural retention. Being bilingual in Spanish is a non-negotiable requirement to facilitate effective communication and connection with the seniors served by the Hispanic Senior Center. While a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, it is not mandatory; however, a passion for service and cultural sensitivity is essential.
