Job Description

American International College, located at 1000 State Street, Springfield, MA, is a respected institution committed to providing quality education and fostering a supportive campus environment for its students. Within this vibrant academic community, the campus dining services play a crucial role in ensuring that students, faculty, and staff have access to nutritious and delicious meals throughout the week. We are seeking part-time cooks to join our dedicated team at American International College. This position offers an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals who enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and who take pride in preparing high-quality food with care and precision. Scheduled for weekends from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, this part-time role provides flexibility and a rewarding way to contribute to the campus life by ensuring that meal services run smoothly.

As a part-time cook, you will be responsible for preparing food that meets federal, state, and corporate quality standards. Your expertise, especially prior experience in making pizzas, will be highly valued as you help craft meals that are both appetizing and safe. The role emphasizes the importance of maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment by following established health and safety procedures, including proper food handling, storage, and equipment maintenance. You will actively participate in maintaining inventory, assisting with ordering supplies, and reporting maintenance issues to ensure kitchen operations remain efficient and effective.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to work part time on weekends
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Qualifications

  • Prior experience in making pizzas preferred
  • Experience in food preparation and kitchen operations
  • Ability to follow recipes and food safety guidelines
  • Strong attention to cleanliness and kitchen maintenance

Job Duties

  • Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions
  • Serve meals or prepare for delivery using correct portioning and ensuring food is at the correct temperature
  • Taste all prepared food items to ensure quality
  • Use established ticket collection procedures during service
  • Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness
  • Store or discard excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed
  • Assist in production planning, record keeping, and reporting as required
  • Assist in ordering and receiving food and supplies
  • Report maintenance issues, faulty equipment, or accidents to supervisor immediately
  • Attend in-service and safety meetings
  • Maintain good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators, and managers
  • Perform job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment
  • Ensure proper presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures following HACCP standards
