The Cook role at Maplewood Senior Living is an essential position responsible for preparing and servicing meals that meet dietary standards and provide enjoyment and nourishment to the senior residents. The Cook will work with the culinary team to ensure that food is prepared safely and efficiently, adhering to Maplewood's high standards of cleanliness, safety, and resident satisfaction. This role requires a passion for cooking, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of dietary restrictions often associated with senior care. The successful candidate will assist with food preparation, oversee food service areas, maintain inventory, and step in to supervise servers when necessary. Responsibilities extend beyond cooking, including maintaining a clean and safe work environment, tracking resident dietary compliance, managing waste and supplies, and communicating effectively with management to address any challenges or opportunities within the dietary department. The Cook must demonstrate excellent kitchen proficiency with equipment such as ovens, mixers, steam tables, and refrigerators, as well as maintain professionalism and composure under stress. They should be empathetic toward the residents and team, demonstrate a neat and organized work style, and be proactive in maintaining the highest standards of kitchen hygiene and community care. - Serve Safe Certification required
- Knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations in food preparation
- Knowledge of cooking times and temperatures according to state guidelines
- Knowledge of different cuts of meat and seasoning techniques
- Experience with senior dietary needs
- Ability to read, write, and speak English

Job Duties
- Assists or prepares food items and serves food to residents within scheduled time frame
- Cleans and maintains food service areas including kitchen and dining room
- Assists Culinary Services Director in maintaining inventory control
- Supervises servers in the absence of the Culinary Service Director
- Maintains clean, neat, and safe work environment
- Demonstrates knowledge of kitchen equipment including ovens, slicers, mixers, steam tables, steamers, toasters, coffee pots, refrigerators, and freezers
- Assures that resident's diets are being followed
