The role of Cook at Franke Tobey Jones is a part-time, relief position where shifts, days, and campus locations vary, requiring flexibility and adaptability. Working three days a week, this role is pivotal in supporting the food services area by collaborating directly with the Chef Director of Dining Services to ensure all meal preparations meet the community’s high standards. As an integral member of the kitchen team, the Cook upholds stringent standards of cleanliness and sanitation, which are crucial to the health and satisfaction of the residents. This position demands an individual who is capable of preparing and cooking meals according to established menus, recipes, and specific dietary requirements, reflecting a thorough understanding of nutritional needs and food safety practices.
In this role, the Cook is responsible for ensuring that all food is prepared timely, meets quality and presentation expectations, and complies with all regulatory standards related to sanitation, infection control, and safety. The position also involves maintaining the organization and cleanliness of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas to foster an efficient and safe working environment. Working collaboratively with fellow kitchen staff, the Cook contributes to the smooth execution of meal services, emphasizing teamwork and communication. The Cook must also demonstrate respect and courtesy in all interactions with residents, colleagues, and guests, upholding the community’s values of dignity and respect. Additionally, this role supports menu preparation and food production planning, taking direction from the Chef Director to continuously enhance the dining experience. This role requires passing background and drug screening and holding a valid Washington State Food Handler’s Card, underscoring the importance of safety and reliability in food service operations at Franke Tobey Jones.

Job Requirements
- Reading English and effective communication skills
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- At least 1 year experience as a cook
- Experience in a commercial kitchen and/or a senior living facility preferred
- Ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities
- Ability to work well as a team member
- Washington State Food Handler's Card
- Ability to pass background and drug screens

Job Duties
- Prepare and cook meals according to menus, recipes, and dietary requirements
- Ensure food is prepared in a timely manner and meets quality and presentation standards
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas
- Assist with menu preparation and food production planning as directed
- Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient meal service
- Interact respectfully and courteously with residents, staff, and guests
- Maintain a safe working environment and report safety concerns promptly
- Perform other related duties as assigned
