This cook position is designed for individuals with prior kitchen experience who can perform efficiently in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The role involves preparing food to strict specifications before and during the event, ensuring that each dish meets quality standards and guest expectations. The cook will use various kitchen equipment such as knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, grills, steamers, ovens, and more to execute food preparation tasks. Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the workstation and equipment is a critical part of the role, as is adhering to all health codes and safety regulations.

Working at this event requires availability for a specific schedule spanning seven consecutive days with varying shift times starting as early as 5:30 AM and ending up to 5:30 PM. Punctuality and attendance are highly emphasized, and there is a bonus offered for completing all seven days without lateness or absences. The role demands physical endurance, manual dexterity, and the ability to work in a potentially noisy, hot, and damp kitchen environment.

Job Requirements

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to chop, mix, blend, whip etc a variety of foods and liquids
  • Ability to lift and carry large pans, weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to handle and/or operate all kitchen equipment in a safe manner
  • Standing and walking for entire length of shift
  • Frequently required to reach up to 6-7 feet, twist at waist, bending and squatting
  • Pushing and pulling occasionally, to move equipment, mops, and brooms
  • Kitchen environment noise levels may be moderate-to-high
  • Works frequently in a hot and damp environment

Job Qualifications

  • At least 6 months previous experience in back-of-the-house foodservice position required
  • Ability to read and comprehend prep sheets and recipes
  • Basic math skills, ability to understand, calculate and follow recipe measurements and proportions
  • Available leading up to and during the event

Job Duties

  • Prepares food to specifications before and during the event
  • Properly measures and portions all food items
  • Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food items such as knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, ovens
  • Ensures proper food temperatures are maintained and food is stored correctly
  • Keeps workstation, coolers, and equipment clean, organized, sanitized, and sufficiently stocked
  • Follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations
  • Uses waste control guidelines and records all waste on spoilage sheet
