Job Description
Gladman is a licensed 40-bed Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC) dedicated to providing sub-acute psychiatric treatment to adults aged 18 and older. Operating under the mission of Telecare, the center is committed to delivering and managing excellent services and systems of care specifically designed for individuals with serious mental illness. The institution integrates compassionate care with specialized clinical programs to support recovery and improve the quality of life for its clients. The available position is for a Cook responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals to clients while adhering to dietary protocols appropriate for a mental health rehabilitation facility. This role entails seasoning and cooking a variety of foods including meat, fish, vegetables, soups, salads, and desserts, ensuring that meals align with therapeutic diet requirements to support client health and wellbeing. The Cook is expected to efficiently review menus, work orders, and recipes, and participate in food preparation activities such as washing, trimming, seasoning, and cooking. This position also supervises dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor, maintains standards of kitchen cleanliness and food safety, and manages inventory to avoid waste.
Shifts are available with a starting wage of $21.94 per hour, subject to union membership as it falls under a collective bargaining agreement. Pay ranges are adjusted based on the geographic location of the role and candidate experience above the minimum requirements. This position requires a high level of responsibility, including working with disabled adults, and necessitates background clearance through fingerprinting and approval by the Criminal Justice Department. The Cook must possess the ability to operate institutional kitchen equipment such as steam tables, stoves, refrigerators, and freezers. This role demands physical endurance and adherence to safety protocols to ensure a safe and supportive environment for clients and staff alike.

Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED
- minimum two years of food production experience including therapeutic diets
- preferred experience in health care setting
- ability to operate institutional kitchen equipment
- ability to communicate effectively in English
- willingness to work with disabled adults
- successful fingerprinting and criminal background clearance
- adherence to safety and hygiene standards
- physical ability to perform repetitive tasks and lift weights up to 100 pounds
- flexibility to work assigned shifts under a union collective bargaining agreement
Job Qualifications
- two years of experience in food production with knowledge of therapeutic diets
- experience in a health care setting preferred
- high school graduation or G.E.D. equivalent
- experience using institutional kitchen equipment such as steam tables, stoves, refrigerators and freezers
- ability to read, write and speak English
- willingness to work with disabled adults
- clearance from Criminal Justice Department after fingerprinting
Job Duties
- prepares, cooks and serves food to clients according to therapeutic diet requirements
- reviews menus, work orders and recipes to determine meal types and quantities
- washes, trims, seasons and cooks a variety of foods including meat, fish, vegetables, soups, salads and desserts
- collects and assembles food items from storage areas during preparation
- receives and monitors food deliveries against requisitions and invoices
- supervises dietary staff in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor regarding equipment use, food storage, housekeeping and safety standards
- ensures cleaning and maintenance programs are consistently followed
