Job Description

The Kensington Hotel is currently seeking a qualified Cook to join its team at the off-site catering facility. This role is integral to the hotel's culinary operations, supporting the preparation and delivery of high-quality food items in line with the hotel's production standards and safety guidelines. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing food items consistently and efficiently by following specific recipe cards and maintaining the quality expected by the Kensington Hotel and the Graham Hotel System’s Hospitality standards. The position requires an individual who can work meticulously to ensure food safety by properly dating and rotating all food containers and maintaining appropriate temperature controls for perishables.

In this role, the Cook will monitor inventory closely by checking pars for each shift, preparing necessary items, and assisting with freezer pulls and line setups. The candidate will also help maintain buffet stocks and manage leftover food responsibly by returning unused items to storage. An important aspect of the role involves assisting in food cost control by identifying issues related to food waste, loss, and usage, thereby contributing to efficient inventory management and cost-effectiveness.

Operationally, the Cook will be expected to expertly operate and maintain various kitchen equipment, including deep fryers, broilers, stoves, steamers, food processors, mixers, slicers, ovens, steam tables, tilt kettles, waffle irons, and flat-top grills. Due to the customer-facing nature of the work, the position also involves interacting with guests during catering events, taking special requests, and delivering personalized, friendly, and professional service to enhance the dining experience.

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Self-starting personality with an even disposition
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner at all times
  • Must be willing to pitch-in and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers
  • Finger/hand dexterity in order to operate food machinery
  • Ability to grasp lift and/or carry move goods weighing a maximum of 100 lbs on a continuous schedule

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous cooking experience in a hospitality or catering environment preferred
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Customer service orientation

Job Duties

  • Prepare food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe sanitary work environment
  • Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards
  • Start food items that are prepared ahead of time making sure not to overprepare estimated needs
  • Date all food containers and rotate as per Graham Hotel System’s Hospitality standards making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures
  • Check pars for shift use determine necessary preparation freezer pull and line set up Note any out of stock items or possible shortages Assist in keeping buffet stocked
  • Return all food items not used on next shift to designated storage areas
  • Assist in setting up plans and actions to correct any food cost problems control food waste loss and usage per Graham Hotel System’s Hospitality standards
  • Operate maintain and properly clean deep fryer broiler stove steamer food processor mixer slicer oven steam table tilt kettle waffle iron and flat top grill
  • Interact with guests take special requests and create a memorable dining experience by offering personalized attention and engaging with them in a friendly and professional manner
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned
