Job Description
PeaceHealth is a renowned healthcare organization committed to delivering exceptional care and service to patients across the Pacific Northwest. With numerous medical centers and facilities, PeaceHealth fosters a compassionate and dedicated environment for both caregivers and the individuals they serve. The organization places a strong emphasis on inclusivity, respect for diversity, and cultural humility, ensuring that all employees work within a supportive and collaborative community. This organizational culture promotes not only patient wellbeing but also the overall personal and professional growth of its caregivers.
The role of Cook - Nutrition Services at PeaceHealth is a critical position that supports the hospital’s mission to provide high-quality nutritional care to patients, medical staff, caregivers, volunteers, and visitors. This is a Per Diem/Relief position that operates during the evening shift for 8-hour durations in Springfield, OR. As a Cook in the Nutrition Services department, you will be responsible for preparing food using HACCP guidelines for safe food handling, ensuring that all meals meet recipe and production standards specifically tailored to a healthcare environment. The salary range for this role is between $22.62 and $35.33, with the pay depending on factors such as education, relevant experience, training, and seniority, among others. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and there may be multiple openings.
Being part of PeaceHealth means you will be contributing directly to the health and recovery of hospital patients by preparing meals that meet stringent health and safety standards. The position entails following detailed food recipes accurately, preparing both hot and cold foods with attention to food styling, and considering patient and customer counts to optimize production without waste. You will maintain food safety procedures by handling and sanitizing workstations properly, ensuring regulatory and departmental records are meticulously kept.
The role requires excellent knowledge of food safety protocols, including maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation in accordance with HACCP guidelines. It also demands physical stamina for lifting, moving, and working near heated surfaces, as well as a strong ability to communicate effectively with team members and work collaboratively. PeaceHealth values cooks who have experience in hospital or institutional food service environments or a combination of formal culinary training and hands-on work experience that equips them with the necessary skill set to excel in this role.
This position offers a unique opportunity to be a part of a healthcare organization that prioritizes the wellbeing of both its patients and employees. PeaceHealth also offers select benefits which include a 403b retirement plan for caregiver contributions, wellness benefits, discount programs, and expanded employee assistance programs focused on mental health and wellbeing. The organization prides itself on fostering cultural humility and respect, and it supports employee growth through these inclusive values. If you are passionate about food preparation and interested in contributing to patient care in a dynamic healthcare setting, this position as a Cook - Nutrition Services at PeaceHealth in Springfield, OR will provide you with meaningful work and career growth opportunities.
