The current opportunity at Allegro of St. Augustine is for a Cook / Line Cook position focused on serving the community’s senior residents through nutritious and appealing meals. This role is offered as a full-time position with morning and evening shifts available, scheduled from 6 am to 2 pm or 10 am to 7 pm, every other weekend, ensuring there are no late-night shifts. Starting pay is competitive at $21 per hour, reflecting the importance of this role in contributing to the well-being and satisfaction of the community’s residents.

In this role, the Cook will play a vital part in the culinary team, responsible for preparing and presenting meals that are not only delicious but also nourishing and visually attractive. The position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about cooking and enjoy working in a supportive environment dedicated to enhancing the daily lives of seniors. Experience as a line cook, prep cook, kitchen cook, or restaurant cook is beneficial, allowing the individual to bring their culinary skills into a rewarding and purposeful setting.

The cook is expected to prepare food that meets high standards of quality consistent with local tastes and company policies. Adherence to standard recipes, budget controls, and food safety regulations is critical. The role includes supervising kitchen operations under the direction of the Dining Services Director and Lead Cook, ensuring all kitchen activities align with best practices to prevent foodborne illnesses and maintain hygiene standards. Additionally, the cook will engage with residents and staff in a friendly, service-oriented manner, contributing to a positive dining experience and overall community atmosphere.

Job Requirements

  • must be flexible/adaptable, pay attention to detail, and have a sense of teamwork
  • must possess good time management skills and a keen awareness of safety
  • must possess current manager's level food handler permit
  • must have positive criminal background screening

Job Duties

  • Prepare delicious and attractive food that is colorful and tastefully presented making each meal service an exceptional occasion
  • supervise the kitchen under the direction of the Dining Services Director (DSD) and Chef/Lead Cook
  • prepare high quality meals consistent with local customs and tastes, consistently adhere to the standard recipes, the budgeted costs and Company policies
  • supervise and/or assist in the proper washing of all dishes, cookware, flatware, and utensils
  • properly maintain all kitchen equipment
  • monitor water temperatures and/or chemical compounds as appropriate to ensure the prevention of foodborne illness and the spread of communicable disease
  • approach residents and associates in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • perform other job duties as assigned
