Job Requirements

  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in food service administration, dietetic technology, nutrition restaurant management or a related food service field
  • or graduation from high school, GED or equivalency diploma and two years of full time experience in an industrial or school cafeteria, hospitals, restaurants, hotels and/or other similar operations other than fast food or short order, involving large quantity food service
  • or an equivalent combination as defined within limits of education and experience

  • thorough knowledge of approved methods of food preparation
  • working knowledge of the nutritional values of foods
  • working knowledge of large scale food ordering and storage
  • ability to plan and supervise the work of others
  • ability to maintain simple records and prepare reports
  • ability to get along well with children and adults
  • ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks food and manages a school food service program at their respective schools
  • plans menus to meet pupil nutritive requirements
  • requisitions foods and supplies
  • oversees the preparation and serving of food
  • directs the storage and care of foods and supplies
  • supervises the cleaning of the kitchen, serving, storage and dining areas and the care of equipment
  • plans the work schedules of employees
  • assists in the selection and arrangement of kitchen equipment
  • maintains employee time records
  • maintains simple records of food and supplies received and used
  • prepares and submits reports on activities of the cafeteria
  • performs related work as required
