Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum three years experience in quantity food production
  • Ability to read and understand English language
  • Valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving personal vehicle
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, squat, and reach during work duties
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Capacity to use hands consistently for cooking tasks
  • Ability to withstand heat from stoves and ovens
  • Must be able to stand and walk most of the working day
  • Food Handlers Card
  • CPR certification within 90 days of employment and maintain current certification
  • Food and Safety Certification
  • Ability to develop computer skills adequate for documentation within 90 days
  • Class B or C California Driver’s License if applicable
  • Certified in Basic Food Services
  • Culinary Arts Certification desired

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Three years of experience in quantity food production
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow English language directions and recipes
  • Knowledge of special diets and appropriate food substitutions
  • Experience in food safety practices and maintaining sanitation
  • Competence in food preparation methods including baking, roasting, broiling, steaming, and sauteing
  • Ability to supervise and train kitchen staff
  • Basic computer skills for food safety documentation
  • Knowledge of professional kitchen and food service standards

Job Duties

  • Prepare a wide variety of soups, sauces, and pastries from scratch
  • Plan cooking schedules with Food Service Manager and Registered Dietitian
  • Observe and supervise daily food preparation including washing, trimming, cooking, and seasoning
  • Evaluate food quality by tasting, smelling, and visual appearance
  • Use thermometer to ensure safe internal cooking temperatures
  • Utilize portion control for individual servings
  • Supervise kitchen work crew and train on food preparation
  • Assist with ordering and delivery of food and non-food items
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas and equipment
  • Communicate special needs with Food Service Manager
  • Adhere to applicable regulatory standards
  • Assist in orientation of new staff, interns, or volunteers
  • Maintain professional relationships with health care team, patients, and visitors
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions
