Job Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination by background investigation
- Must pass food handler's examination every six months
- Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license
- Complete pre-employment and annual physical examinations
- Provide proof of immunity for Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis screening
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing under Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program
- Sign DA Form 7412 related to safety-sensitive employment
- May be assigned to other essential work during dredging lay-ups
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete Pre-Employment Certification for Selective Service
- Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship
- One-year trial/probationary period may be required
- Direct deposit of pay required
- Selection subject to Department of Defense referral system restrictions
Job Qualifications
- Ability to do the work of a Cook Leader without more than normal supervision
- Skilled in leading a crew of cooks and shipkeepers in preparing and serving meals
- Knowledge of cooking various foods including meats, fish, soups, poultry, vegetables, fruits, breads, cakes, and desserts
- Ability to store commodities for 30 to 60 people
- Ability to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions in galley and crew quarters
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and maintain tools and equipment
- Dexterity, knowledge of materials, and work practices required
Job Duties
- Plan work in relation to and follow work procedures provided by supervisor with minor deviations allowed
- Set pace of work for cooks and shipkeepers considering work to be accomplished
- Check work in progress for compliance with instructions and notify supervisor of changes that may reduce operational costs
- Ensure cleanliness of galley, messroom, and crew quarters and maintain sanitary conditions during food preparation and cooking
- Keep supervisor informed regarding status of supplies
- Explain and assure compliance with safety, conduct, and housekeeping rules and regulations
