The role of Cook at Saint Joseph Hospital is critical in maintaining the well-being of patients, staff, and visitors through the preparation of high-quality, safe, and appetizing meals. This position requires an individual with expertise in preparing food within a healthcare setting, particularly meals that adhere to various therapeutic diets. The Cook contributes to the hospital’s commitment to health and safety by rigorously following state and federal food preparation regulations specific to medical environments. Daily duties hinge on executing recipes accurately, applying safe cooking techniques, and maintaining strict quality control standards to ensure that food served meets the hospital’s elevated standards for appearance, taste, temperature, and sanitation. Candidates for this role must have proven experience in high-volume food preparation and a comprehensive understanding of food safety protocols and dietary requirements, including modifications for food allergies. The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while upholding culinary excellence is essential.   • Minimum two years of experience in food services
  • food handler permit: KY, within 30 days or ServSafe certification within 30 days
  • one year of hospital experience preferred
  • associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Champions food quality standards of appearance, taste, temperature and sanitation
  • prepares and serves food within guidelines of menu and dietary requirements, using required kitchen utensils and equipment such as slicers, mixers, ovens, fryers, steamers, stove tops, and grills
  • modifies preparations to account for food allergies
  • maintains proper labeling of food products and ensures storage of food equipment and machinery per regulations and facility guidelines
  • performs washing and cleaning duties to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in cooking and serving areas
