Monastery Heights is currently seeking a motivated and skilled Cook to join their culinary team. Reporting directly to the Food Service Director, this role is integral to delivering high-quality meals that meet the dietary needs and personal preferences of residents, staff, and guests. The culinary staff at Monastery Heights work diligently to prepare delicious and nutritious dishes that are visually appealing and safely handled. The ideal candidate will typically have experience working in a restaurant or hospitality setting, bringing both technical cooking skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
This cooking role involves participating in all phases of food preparation including meats, fish, soups, sauces, vegetables, desserts, and garnishes. The cook must be capable of reading and accurately following recipes independently, ensuring consistency and quality in every meal. In addition to daily meal preparation, the cook will be responsible for assisting with catering functions, assembling food displays, and ensuring that food orders are properly stored and rotated. A key part of the job is maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation areas on a continual basis.
The cook may also act as chef during scheduled times, helping to oversee kitchen operations and support the culinary team as needed. A flexible approach to responsibilities, including stepping in during staff shortages and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Food Service Director, is essential. The role requires a professional demeanor, genuine care for seniors, excellent communication skills, and a positive leadership presence. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience in culinary or food service
- ability to read and follow recipes without confusion
- knowledge of proper food preparation techniques
- capability to prepare orders for residents according to their preferences
- ability to function as chef when scheduled
- willingness to complete state-mandated educational and health trainings including CPR and choking protocols
- strong communication skills

Job Duties
- accepts assigned duties in a cooperative manner
- performs other related duties as directed by the director
- assists with any duties during a time when the staffing is inadequate
- reads, understands, and prepares any recipe without direction or confusion
- prepares all meats, fish, soups, sauces, vegetables, and desserts and garnishes using an acceptable method and appealing presentation
- prepares all food ordered by residents including garnishes
- participates in preparation and assembly of food for catered functions including display trays with appropriate garnishes
- ensures all orders are properly put away and rotated
- assists the chef with overall kitchen operations
- functions as chef as scheduled
- maintains sanitation of all food preparation surfaces on a clean-as-you-go basis
- reduces waste and spoilage of perishables by proper preservation and care of all food
- completes educational requirements imposed by state regulation
- presents self professionally and demonstrates genuine concern for seniors
- communicates well in reading, writing, and speech
- demonstrates positive attitude and leadership abilities
- trains in CPR and choking
