The role currently open is a Cook position, responsible for the safe, proper, and efficient preparation of all food. This role is integral to maintaining the high standards of service expected at PENN Entertainment. The cook will be accountable for the operation and efficiency of assigned kitchen areas, ensuring that food preparation meets presentation and procedural standards. The job offers a dynamic work environment where proficiency in various cooking methods including grilling, deep-frying, roasting, sautéing, and pantry preparation is essential. In addition to preparing orders accurately and efficiently, the cook will manage inventory requisition and maintain cleanliness and operational order in the kitchen throughout each shift. This role demands attention to detail, a commitment to food safety in compliance with health codes, and the ability to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the hospitality and entertainment industry.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Comply with all company and departmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform kitchen duties
  • Meet health and safety standards according to local health codes

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally in English
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Understanding of safe food handling practices
  • Experience in various cooking methods such as grilling, deep frying, roasting, sautéing, and pantry preparation
  • Knowledge of kitchen operations and food station management

Job Duties

  • React to food orders in an efficient and proper manner, ensuring presentations and procedures are being followed
  • Ability to work the grill, deep fryer, roasting, sauté, prep and pantry stations proficiently
  • Estimate and requisition supplies from the receiving areas for service
  • Ability to set up and break down all food stations in the kitchens
  • Season food, add garnish, sauce, or vegetables on the order as determined by the Chef
  • Perform job combinations as necessary in the kitchen
  • Maintain a clean kitchen and good working order throughout the shift
  • Ensure that the kitchen is closed down properly after each shift
  • Understand safe food handling practices as described in Michigan Health Code
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned
