Job Description

Sutter Health is a leading healthcare network known for its commitment to providing high-quality medical services across Northern California. Within this renowned organization lies the California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) Van Ness campus, a state-of-the-art facility that offers expansive healthcare services to diverse patient populations. As part of Sutter Health, this medical center is not only a place for cutting-edge medical treatments but also a community hub that supports wellness, healing, and clinical excellence through collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals, support staff, and ancillary services.

The organization is currently seeking a Cook for their Per Diem/Casual employment at the CPMC Van Ness location. This role plays an essential part in ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors receive nutritious and high-quality meals prepared in adherence to established menus and health standards. The Cook position is designed to operate under general supervision but carries the important responsibility of maintaining food safety, proper sanitation, and service orientation within a high-volume kitchen environment. This opportunity is ideal for culinary professionals with a passion for nutrition and a dedication to contributing to patient care through food excellence.

The Cook will be tasked with preparing appropriate amounts of food, following standardized recipes, and complying with food safety regulations such as ServSafe certification. The role demands knowledge of nutrition principles to support various dietary needs in a medical facility, along with the ability to work efficiently while concentrating on quality and detail. The position requires physical stamina to lift, push, and pull up to forty pounds, making it well-suited for energetic individuals who thrive in fast-paced kitchen settings. With varied shifts including weekdays and weekends, this Per Diem position offers flexible hours that can accommodate different schedules.

Given the competitive pay range of $35.34 to $39.47 per hour, this role provides both a rewarding compensation package and the chance to be part of a respected healthcare institution. Sutter Health places great value on diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal opportunity employment while supporting the professional growth and wellbeing of its team members. While this particular position does not include direct benefits due to its per diem status, workers gain valuable experience in a large-volume food production environment, ideally within hospital or healthcare contexts.

Candidates with prior experience in hotel or restaurant kitchens will find their skills transferable and highly valued. The role emphasizes strict adherence to food temperature control, sanitation rules, and the ability to perform routine arithmetic calculations necessary for portion control and stock management. Interpersonal skills for effective communication with fellow kitchen staff, management, and customers are also crucial. This position offers a unique chance to blend culinary expertise with healthcare service, forming a vital part of the team that enhances patient experiences through quality nutrition and food preparation.
