Wellmore of Lexington is a distinguished luxury senior living community recognized as a Great Place to Work, highlighting its commitment to creating a supportive and welcoming workplace. Their philosophy, 'People First, Always,' reflects an organizational culture where team members are valued as the greatest asset. This principle drives their dedication to fostering compassionate, respectful, and meaningful interactions daily, not just among staff but also within the resident community they serve. Wellmore of Lexington has built its reputation on promoting teamwork, growth, and a collaborative environment where contributions at all levels are celebrated and professional development is actively encouraged. The company emphasizes making a lasting positive impact on the lives of seniors and their colleagues through a vibrant, engaging workplace atmosphere.
We are currently seeking a Cook II with restaurant experience to join our culinary team. This position is a skilled line cook role, demanding advanced culinary skills, efficient time management, and organizational proficiency. As a Cook II, you will play a critical role in food production, preparing a variety of dishes including soups, stocks, sauces, main courses, starches, and vegetables. The role requires familiarity with and the ability to execute the seven methods of cooking with precision and consistency. This position expects the incumbent to actively maintain their cooking station, review and follow prep, opening, and closing lists, and adhere to recipes accurately. You will gain diverse experience working across multiple cooking stations and must have demonstrated your skills to a supervising chef, including proficiency in detailed knife cuts.
Your responsibilities will center on working collaboratively with both front and back of house teams to uphold the highest standards of quality, presentation, and portion control as mandated by Wellmore and Senior Living Communities. You will adhere strictly to food safety protocols including HACCP guidelines, proper food handling, labeling, storage, and regulatory compliance. Regular documentation maintenance such as temperature monitoring charts is expected for food safety assurance. The role also demands professional communication and cooperation with other departments and the Home Office support team to ensure resident satisfaction and continuity of the Weller Life experience. Participation in planning and production meetings, ongoing training, and education programs to continuously enhance skills and service quality are integral parts of this position.
Competencies for success in this role include a strong technical skill set that exceeds baseline expectations, excellent communication skills to convey actionable information to supervisors and team members, and initiative characterized by a self-motivated approach and proactive problem-solving mindset. The candidate must demonstrate flexibility to adapt to a dynamic work environment, sound interpersonal skills to handle conflicts constructively, teamwork to balance individual and collective responsibilities, professionalism in delivering quality products consistently, and a high ethical standard aligned with the company’s guiding principles of respect, trust, and integrity.
Physical demands of the job include the ability to stand for long shifts, operate kitchen equipment safely, carry up to 50 pounds, and maintain sensory and manual dexterity necessary for kitchen operations. The environment may include exposure to noise, potential contact with bodily fluids, and physical and emotional stress associated with food service in a senior living context. Although travel is not generally expected, occasional trips may be required for training and company functions.
Candidates should have 1-2 years of related cooking experience, preferably with culinary training, and possess the ability to communicate effectively in English and work independently while adhering to attendance and punctuality standards. Wellmore of Lexington values diversity and inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities. This role offers an enriching opportunity to support senior residents with exceptional culinary care while advancing your professional growth within a respected and caring community.
